THE ROLE OF INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS IN ANGOLA

Abstract

The trajectory of human rights has recently been influenced by the phase of turbulence and radicalization in which modernity has entered. Many theorists argue that modernity did not become postmodernism, but it became radicalized and entered into a more complex "second phase." It did not dissolve or exhaust itself, but instead became reflexive and came to live with the constant disengagement of its more traditional elements, which are retracted following a different logic. It is as if modernity has plunged itself into a process of "creative self-destruction," in which "change takes place somewhat out of control, sometimes in silence, sometimes loudly, subverting what was instituted and questioning itself all the time." In this context, the nation-state, which for a good part of the twentieth century has positioned itself as mediator of conflicts between capital and labor and played the role of provider of improvements in the life of the poor and guarantor of human rights, will progressively of 1950-1960, due to a disembedding situation.
