TRANSIT POLICE AS CRIMINALITY REDUCTION INSTRUMENT: A STUDY COMPARED TO THE OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES ADOPTED BY THE MILITARY POLICE OF THE FEDERAL DISTRICT AND THE US APPROVED

This article aimed to investigate whether the traffic policing carried out by the Federal District Military Police (PMDF) reduces crime when a specific doctrine is applied and focused on criminal prevention in a particular region, as well as comparing the application of traffic policing in the PMDF in relation to the U.S. operational parameters known as Data-Driven Approaches to Crime and Traffic Safety (DDACTS). It was perceived in the course of the investigation that it is essential the work to be done by the PMDF, which includes a model of identification of critical areas, participation of society together with police actions, collection of statistical data resulting from arrests and seizures made during the operation period, together with the evaluation of the performance of the operations performed. This research adopted the analysis of primary sources in the PMDF, such as legislation, regulations and ordinances, studies conducted in other military police in Brazil and other countries that have been using a transit procedure aimed at preventing crime for a longer time. In the analyses carried out during the research, it was evident that the criminal indexes decreased when traffic policing was used as an instrument.
