Abstract

With Brazil's economic instability and the rise of consumerism, many police officers find themselves in debt, and they need to resort to loans with high interest rates and, often, to perform extra activities to supplement their income. Thus, the present study has a general objective of analyzing whether the poor financial management of military police officers in the state of Rio Grande do Norte influences the quality of their service to society. To this end, based on the survey, a field study was conducted, and it included the application of an online semi-structured questionnaire to 110 military police officers from the Independent Tourist Police Company of the Military Police of Rio Grande do Norte (PMRN). Regarding the approach, the research is quantitative and uses simple statistical analysis and Content Analysis. Its findings showed that one of the motivations for seeking “side jobs” is to pay off debts and have financial reserves for a possible emergency; however, performing this extra activity can be an influential factor in the Quality of Life of the police officer and in the way he carries out his mission for society. Thus, it can be concluded that the PMRN needs to create strategies so that military personnel can acquire more knowledge on the subject, avoiding their mental and physical illness, as alleged by some of the testimonies presented in the research results.
