Abstract

This monograph seeks to evaluate the expansion of correspondent banking in Brazil, focusing on its role in financial inclusion, its implications for the traditional banking system and the impact on the unbanked population, through a qualitative and exploratory methodology, with documentary analysis and bibliographic review of the available academic and institutional literature in order to identify the main factors that drove the expansion of correspondent banking in Brazil, to analyze the effects of the expansion of correspondent banking on financial inclusion, especially for low-income populations and remote areas with limited access to traditional banking services, and to assess the implications of the proliferation of correspondent banking for the traditional banking system, including changes in banks' strategies and government regulation related to these correspondents. In conclusion, the study suggests that, in order to ensure the sustainability of the model, it is necessary to invest in the modernization of banking correspondents, improve working conditions, and update current regulations, with a view to strengthening financial inclusion and promoting a safer and more efficient banking service.
