This article analyzes the role of the sacred in the re-elaboration of suffering through evangelical hospital chaplaincy, emphasizing its relevance in the humanization of care in healthcare settings. The research was conducted at the Evangelical Hospital Chaplaincy of Limeira, SP, and explores how religious symbolism, combined with medicine, can promote patients' emotional and spiritual relief. The study shows that through faith and religious practice, patients can reframe their experiences of pain and vulnerability, strengthening their resilience in critical health situations. Based on a historical and conceptual review of hospital chaplaincy, the sacred and the power of faith are analyzed as transformative elements in the recovery of patients. The work of the chaplaincy goes beyond spiritual support, offering a comprehensive approach that includes the accompaniment of families and continuous emotional support. The article also discusses how hospital chaplaincy is important in creating an environment of solidarity and care and strengthening relationships between patients, families, and healthcare professionals. By addressing the partnership between medicine and spirituality, this study demonstrates the need for holistic care that addresses the multiple dimensions of the human being, including the body, mind, and spirit. Hospital chaplaincy thus emerges as an essential tool for promoting the integral healing of patients, offering a safe space for the expression of faith and reflection on suffering.
